Why support Outliers

As someone who came through the South African education system before the end of apartheid, I know first-hand the deep inequities that have shaped access to quality education. Education was used as a tool to limit opportunity, particularly for Black and Coloured communities.

From my experience, I also know how transformative access to education can be; not just in shaping individual futures but also in enabling social and economic mobility across generations.

Many communities remain under-resourced, and far too many young people are still excluded from the support structures that foster academic success.

This is why I support the work of Outliers. Their commitment to strengthening community-based after-school programmes is essential. It’s not just about academic support; it’s about restoring dignity, building confidence, and giving young people a fair chance to thrive.

With experience in higher education and public service, I have seen how educational support profoundly shapes long-term academic and social outcomes.

I am proud to support Outliers and encourage others to do the same.

The work of Outliers speaks to the commitment of The Kolisi Foundation to support long-term change in underserved communities, particularly through education. Their focus on curriculum recovery is especially significant in a context where many children are left behind by the formal education system.

Outliers play a critical role in bridging this gap by equipping grassroots organisations with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to deliver quality after-school programming.

Our mission at the foundation is rooted in partnering with organisations that have a pre-existing footprint in the communities they serve, and Outliers exemplifies this approach. Their capacity-support not only strengthens our partner organisations but also ensures that our investment in education has a wider and more sustainable impact. Their meaningful contributions to the education ecosystem make them a valuable partner in our mission to change the stories of inequality and to see thriving communities.

Join the campaign by telling us why you support Outliers, and we will include you on social media in the coming weeks.
